Family Field Days at JCC on Aug. 6

The Jewish Community Center of Binghamton will hold a Family Field Days event on Sunday, August 6, from 11 am-2 pm.

Big Galut(e) at Glimmerglass Festival on Aug. 8

The Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown will present a concert by klezmer ensemble Big Galut(e) on Tuesday, August 8, at 5 pm, in the Pavilion behind the main stage.

Jewish Film Festival in Ithaca concludes Aug. 9

The Arts Committee of Temple Beth-El has invited the community to the third and final screening of its annual Jewish Film Festival.


Local resident earns bronze medal at Senior Olympics

Binghamton resident Barbara Ruchames and her family traveled to Birmingham, AL, in June for the 2017 National Senior Games, where on June 10 she ran a 10K in an hour, six minutes, earning a bronze medal in her age group, 70-74.

Our assumptions and expectations are often created by our surroundings. Culture, family or politics can lead us to believe our lives will continue according to a map we’ve created in our minds. It often comes as a rude awakening when reality strikes and we learn that the world is a precarious place.


Campaign promises and lies

It’s understandable that elected officials can’t always keep all their campaign promises. However, there are also times when candidates deliberately take back a promise they made on the campaign trail. In simpler English, they lied to the people who elected them.
