The Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton and Hillel at Binghamton will hold an Oct. 7 commemoration event on Wednesday, October 7, at the Old Union Hall at Binghamton University. From 4-7 pm, the exhibit “10/7: Human Stories” will be open for viewing. At 7 pm, there will be a commemorative ceremony and speaker. The commemoration is co-sponsored by the Binghamton University Zionist Organization, Chabad at Binghamton, Hillel at Binghamton and the Jewish Federation. The event is open to the community.
The exhibit “10/7: Human Stories” was developed by Hillel International and is based on Israeli journalist Lee Yaron’s book “10/7: 100 Human Stories,” “to preserve the humanity of those who suffered and to honor the memory of those killed during the terror attacks on October 7, 2023,” according to Hillel International’s website. “The exhibit lifts up some of the lives lost, showcasing diverse stories of resilience and heroism, with the goal of providing high-quality educational programming about this defining moment in the contemporary Jewish and Israeli experience.” Each panel in the exhibit highlights the story of an individual or family impacted by the October 7 attacks by Hamas.
“We hope the community will join us for both the exhibit that details the stories of people impacted by October 7th and the commemorative ceremony,” said Noah Lenkin, the Springboard Fellow at Hillel at Binghamton.
“It has been three years since Hamas attacked Israel, brutally murdering more than 1,100 men, women and children, and taking 250 people hostage,” said Shelley Hubal, executive director of the Federation. “This solemn day in our history is still fresh in our minds and souls. I hope the community will come to this evening of healing and commemoration. ‘Never Forget’ starts in this moment.”
Hillel will arrange for reserved parking on campus for anyone that needs it. Those requiring reserved parking must contact Hubal at director@jfgb.org or 607-724-2332 by Thursday, September 24.
