The Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton will hold a “Guardian/Greeter Safety Training” on Tuesday, August 27, at 6:30 pm, at the Jewish Community Center, 500 Clubhouse Rd., Vestal. Mark Henderson, the director of community security for the Jewish Community Federation of Greater Rochester, will lead the session. The training is open to the entire community. To register for the program, click here or contact the Federation office at 607-724-2332 or director@jfgb.org.
The program teaches people to be guardians by showing how they can take personal responsibility for the safety and security of themselves, their families and their community. It focuses on the skill sets that people need to identify, protect and respond to all hazards. The course’s motto is, “Get involved. Get empowered. Get trained.”
“This training is aimed at all members of an organization or congregation because, at some time, almost everyone will open a door and need to make a decision about whether or not it’s safe to do so,” said Shelley Hubal, executive director of the Federation. “It teaches how to identify suspicious people, vehicles and packages, and learn ways to protect our community. We all should become active bystanders who can respond to incidents and situations.”
